Upsets, landmark wins, upsets, and more upsets filled the tops performances for August – from by hard hitting cement chin Gatekeeper to victories by former champions to #cancersurvivors statements and inspirations.

Over the past couple months, the #WomenofBoxing have been making a strong stand for competitive opportunities and privileges, but also winning the fans attention as #BotM. August continues the steam as Amanda Serrano took the reins for her second #BotM win in the history of the honor. Serrano won the February 2013 #BotM honor.

Never declining a bout contract, Serrano headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina for a chance to add the WBO Lightweight Title to her collection of gold and leather. On August 15th, the championship bout went down against the defending champion, Maria Maderna. Maderna could not match the speed and power of the Puerto Rican born Serrano. A vicious right hook in the 6th round ended Maderna’s championship grasp, as she could not regain her feet before the referee stopped it. With the win, Serrano improves to 21-1-1, with 16 KOs.

From the latest #theBIZ #theRANKINGS, Serrano is currently rated #2 on the #WomenofBoxing Marketability List as well as a shared #5 of the #WomenofBoxing Love to Hate (L2H) List.

Serrano is one half of the sister/sister championship tandem known as the Chin Checkers. Amanda Serrano adds the WBO Lightweight Title to her currently held UBF Featherweight Belt. Sister, Cindy, currently holds the UBF Super Featherweight title.

Serranos are on the forefront of the Movement for Respect in the Women’s Game. We expect to hear more from the Serranos and others as they keep raising their voice for increased attention in the sport.
