Eleven WBA Championship fights in October

October will be a month of action for the World Boxing Association (WBA). Eleven championship fights will spread around the world in the best and most prominent boxing rings, during a period that promises to be very successful.

The 14th will be one of the most interesting days. The Featherweight elite will meet in Carson, California, in two fights that are predicted to be wars with a Mexican presence. Leo Santa Cruz will defend his WBA Super Championship at 126 pounds against Chris Avalos, while Abner Mares will expose his crown against Andres Gutierrez that evening. Meanwhile, the same day, George Groves will try to defend his Super Championship at 168 pounds against Jamie Cox in London and Cuban Erislandy Lara will also defend his Super Welterweight Super Championship against the American Terrell Gausha in Brooklyn, New York.

The action will be back on Saturday 21 with another trio of high-level fights. New York will receive Panamanian Super Champion Jezreel Corrales, who exposes his Super Featherweight title against Puerto Rican Alberto Machado. At the same time, in Northern Ireland, Kazakhstan’s Zhanat Zhakiyanov will defend his Bantamweight Super Championship against Englishman Ryan Burnett. The day will be completed in Norway, where the spectacular Cecilia Braekhus will risk her WBA Welterweight belt against Swedish Mikaela Lauren.

A day later, the Middleweight champion, native of Cameroon, Hassan N’Dam, will give Ryota Murata the rematch at the challenger’s home. Tokyo will witness the second episode between these two warriors, whose first fight had the African as a winner in a close decision.

Finally, on the 28th, the attention will be focused on Wales, where three big WBA title fights will be held. Argentina’s Anahí Sánchez will face Ireland’s rising star Katie Taylor for the body’s Lightweight title in a fight that appears to be very eye-catching. The 115-pound champion, British Khalid Yafai, will be challenged by Japan’s Sho Ishida in another promising match in the undercard of the great fight between World Heavyweight Super Champion Anthony Joshua and Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.

With this eleven battles, the WBA begins a very important month that promises entertainment and good boxing for the fans of this great sport.
