From WBC:

A REAL HANDFUL! BRAVE JOANA PASTRANA FOUGHT EIGHT ROUNDS WITH A BROKEN HAND

pastrana-e1476035409118In her WBC Silver Minimumweight Championship bout against Tina Rupprecht in Augsburg, former WBC Amateur Champion Joana Pastrana proved her tremendous warrior spirit, intrepidly battling on, in spite of suffering a broken hand!

The 26-year-old Spanish fighter  fractured her right hand in the second round of the championship all out war, but refused to give up or give in! Instead and indeed, she not only battled to the end, but even won some rounds by just using her sterling left jab, coming  very close to capturing the title.

Right after this fight to remember, Pastrana was taken to hospital where the x-ray scan clearly showed the fracture. “She definitely needs surgery”, said the doctor who immediatly identified the fracture, marveling: “I cannot understand how anybody could still fight and throw punches with an injury like this.”

Ignoring the pain and single mindedly focusing on the task at hand,  Joana incredibly went toe to toe with Tina, finally losing a very close decision. after ten superbly competitive rounds. She didn’t complain about the result,  but only kept asking how soon she can be back in the gym to prepare for the much anticipated rematch.

When the nurses put on the cast so she can travel home to Madrid safely on Saturday, Joana was already cracking jokes, stating: “This is the second time I get taped tonight.” Grin and bear it…plus smile…she won’t  put the gloves back on for a while.

The WBC wishes Joana Pastrana a fast recovery. Being the absolutely, fearless fighter she is, she will surely be back all the stronger.
