May’s #WomenofBoxing #BotM Candidate list was truly an amazing list of talent, containing multi-#BotM winners, #WoB PHP List toppers, #theBIZ Marketing Movers, and just true Champions!
One candidate was considered a somewhat unknown player. But after becoming Ireland’s newest boxing title holder, winning the WBC Interim World Bantamweight Championship, Christina McMahon became popular beyond her homeland.
McMahon improved to 7-0, with 3 KOs by defeating Catherine Phiri in Zambia in a close decision victory. Scores were: 95-95, 97-94, 96-94. giving McMahon the Majority Decision favor.
The Champ came into Phiri’s home country for the bout, with little notice and little notoriety, and had to also fight the altitude affects for a 10 round matchup. Training was intense and seemed beneficial as she was able to secure the upset, just as she did for this #BotM honor.
We look forward to watching McMahon’s trek to take the WBC Crown from Yazmin Rivas.
