June’s #WomenofBoxing #BotM fan-voting, athlete-promoted honor was dominated by the winner, just as she dominated Sayda Mosquera in the defense of her WBA Bantamweight Title. The 4th Round TKO victory for Mayerlin Rivas was another strong display of technical and tactical skill and talent.

The champ proved superior defensive skills and fitness as the challenger came out firing. Rivas stood poised, absorbing the blows with a strong guard, while strategically placing championship experienced counter punches early on.

Mosquera could not seem to find a way through the defensive stronghold of Rivas as the rounds ticked by, continuing to fire forward. Rivas stood her ground to let the challenger tire herself in early rounds.

Halfway into the 4th round, Rivas started her real attack. As Mosquera backpedaled from an advancing combination, she was stunned with a crucial right hook. Rivas smelled blood and went full bore for the win. In trouble, Mosquera tried surviving the round with holding and cowering. At 1:35 of the 4th round, the referee saw no real attack nor defense from the challenger to allow it to continue.

The Championship win advances Rivas’ power-punching record to 12-3-1 with 9 KOs and .

We look forward to more punishing bouts from Rivas and potentially a rematch with #1 in the World in the division Yazmin Rivas.
