In a rematch from their August 2015 WBA/WBC Featherweight unification match, Canadian and hometown favorite Jelena Mrjdenovich (36-10-1, 19 KOs) edged out Argentina’s Edith Soledad Matthysse (14-8-1, 1 KO) Friday evening at the Shaw Convention Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Matthysse came out strong to open the match, controlling the action and flow for the first couple rounds.

Matthysse tried to power through Mrdjenovich but the hometown girl showed why she is still a huge force in the sport, blasting back and overpowering the visiting champ.

Mrdjenovich floored Matthysse in the 10th Round with a left that looked to be the pivotal blow en route to the Unanimous Decision victory to reacquire her WBC strap while adding the WBA title to her stronghold.

Mrdjenovich is quoted:

“The last few rounds, I said (expletive) it. Let’s relax and fight. I thought I owned that fight, but it was an absolute war.”

“It took me awhile to settle in, I landed some real solid punches, but she’s tough and she came to fight.”

Official scores: 96-93, 96-93, 97-92
