From WBC:

BREAKTHROUGH FOR BELGIAN BOXING VIA DELFINE

PERSOON-WBC female lightweight champion Delfine Persoon has appreciably boosted interest in women’s boxing by becoming the first woman boxer to win National Sports Personality of the Year in 2015.

At the second World Boxing Council Convention, which is at the Grand Hotel in Tijuana Delfine said: “In Belgium the sport of boxing has not been that popular but with this everybody is sitting up and taking notice and boxing is now growing.”

Delfine has defined a marvelous career with 34 wins, including 15 Ko’s and just one defeat. She won the lightweight title off Erica Farias on April 20th 2014. Erica has since won the WBC super lightweight title.

Delfine would relish giving Erica a rematch, but with both titles at stake. She said: “if she wants yes, but for the two titles…no problem.” And no problem about fighting up in the next category, as far as Delfine is concerned.

Delfine is also part of the long arm of the law, working as an Inspector with the Federal Police, and now Railway Police.

As for the future, Delfine says: “I want to win more fights and go further. I hope I can do two years or maybe more of boxing. I want to beat the best, so I can prove I’m a good boxer and I’m always learning.”
