From WBF:

Domsodi Finally World Champ, Edges Mezei For WBF Crown

03301After four previous failed attempts at world honors, Hungarian veteran Renata Domsodi finally achieved her goal of becoming world champion on Sunday, July 24, when she defeated tough and skilled Romanian Gabriella Mezei for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Womens World Bantamweight title.

Despite fighting in extreme heat and humidity at the small but totally packed Gentlemen Fight Club Boxing House in Budapest, both boxers were able to put on a good and fast-paced performance with many quick exchanges in a very evenly contested match-up.

While Mezei appeared to be the busier of the two, Domsodi was more cunning and wasted much less energy as she landed the cleaner shots, and after ten entertaining rounds the home-girl was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

Judge Miklos Dory scored the fight 97-94 while judges Tamas Sasvari and Janos Baranyi both had it 97-93, but to the fans at ringside it appeared closer than that. Referee in charge of the action was Bence Kovacs, son of former world Featherweight Champion Istvan “Koko” Kovacs.

After five years as a professional, fighting all over the world, Renata “The Hardcore” Domsodi improved her record to 15-10 (6). Amazingly, this was only the fifth time she boxed in Hungary as a pro. Mezei, losing her second world title-attempt, drops to 7-6-2 (2). ‘

Domsodi vs. Mezei was the main event of a show promoted by Profibox-Promotion.
