Joining Stacey Copeland (2-0; UK), Chantelle Cameron (2-0, 1 KO; UK), Natasha Jonas (1-0, 1 KO; UK), Nicola Adams (2-0, 1 KO; UK), Katie Taylor (6-0, 4 KOs; Ireland), Marlen Esparza (2-0; USA), Mikaela Mayer (1-0, 1 KO; USA), and her amateur boxing rival Claressa Shields (4-0, 2 KOs; USA) in the professional ranks, Britain’s amateur standout Savannah Marshall is anxiously awaiting that special in ring moment on August 26th.

Savannah Marshall is a two time Olympian who represented Great Britain in 2012 and 2016. She the only boxer to to have defeated Shields as an amateur or professional.

Mayweather Promotions is putting a focus on the women’s game as Marshall joins the historic winner and future Hall of Famer and multi-time world champion Welterweight Layla McCarter (39-13-5, 10 KOs) and Super Welterweight Latondria Jones (5-0, 2 KOs) under the TMT Banner.

In signing Marshall, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leaonard Ellerby stated, “We have been diligent in our strategy when it comes to signing new fighters, we scout top talent across the world and Savannah Marshall is the perfect addition to our stable.”

First up for Marshall is Shield’s WBC Silver Championship opponent, Sydney LeBlanc (4-3-1) of Louisiana.

LeBlanc, a former heavyweight champ, lasted 8 tough rounds with the eventual WBC Super Middleweight Champion, Shields. Over 8 rounds, LeBlanc showed persistence and heart in standing tow-to-toe with the champ and without touching the canvas (something Shields has yet to push an opponent to do yet).

Only a week ago, LeBlanc was in action with Shield’s debut opponent, Franchon Crews (2-1, 1 KO), a Unanimous Decision defeat.

With LeBlanc’s defensive toughness, I am sure Mayweather Promotions will use this debut to test the power and motivation of Marshall as to revisit history and dethroning WBC’s Champion.
