Shelly Barnett (1-0) of Evanston, IL (originally of Toronto) is headed back north of the border for her “Home Town Debut” on Saturday, November 11.

As part of the Lee Baxter Promotions show at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario, “Machine Gun” Shelly will step into the ring in front of her hometown fans against Bolivian Mariela Ribera Valverde (4-4, 3 KOs) in a Super Flyweight 4-Rounder.

Barnett is returning to action after achieving her professional debut victory in May, a shutout decision win over Samantha Salazar.

Team Barnett is entering this bout after an intense camp with Chicago’s top lighter girls in Ana Pina, Jazmin Reyes, Tina Gomez, as well as UFC star Felice Herrig.

Regarding camp, the champ stated, “These females help me on a bigger level then just in the ring. Ana is my right hand girl doing the travels with me! Jazmin Reyes took care of strength and conditioning for me this camp which was new to m. I just knew I wanted to build more power this time around. Tina Gomez has been my weight loss go to, just so much support all around.”

Barnett with UFC star Felice Herrig

In sparring with Herrig, Barnett concluded, “(She is) an incredibly strong, experienced, and skilled fighter.”

Barnett has been assisting Herrig, who is currently in camp herself, for her December 2nd fight inside of the UFC octagon.

Barnett and her coach, Ewan Jackson, are feeling confident in the homecoming match this Saturday.

“Expect a great performance. The passion I have for this sport will be on full display for the world to see.”

She added, “My family and friends from Toronto have been so supportive about this fight.”

“Within 5 years I want to be holding a world championship belt and I will have reached the ultimate dream. Truthfully I feel in my prime right now like I’m living out my dreams. I want to be a role model for any other females out there that want it. I want to prove that you can do anything you put your mind to!”
