Svensson challenges Brækhus for Unified World titles on January 28 in Oslo

It’s official! Klara Svensson (17-1, 5 KOs) will challenge female pound-for-pound number one Cecilia Brækhus (29-0, 8 KOs) for the WBC, WBO, WBA and IBF Female World Welterweight titles on January 28 at the Oslo Spectrum in Norway.

The two fighters came face-to-face at a press conference today in the Norwegian capital ahead of their hotly anticipated Scandinavian showdown next month.

“I am looking forward to finally meeting Cecilia in the ring on January 28,” said Svensson. “I have been dreaming about this opportunity for a long time, and I am happy that this fight has been confirmed. I have a lot of respect for Cecilia, she is a great athlete, but I’m very confident I can win.”

Brækhus who returns to the Oslo Spectrum for a second time following her TKO victory over Anne Sophie Mathis in October, is equally confident of defeating her Nordic rival.

“My last fight ended quite quickly, I left the arena without any injuries and was able to return to training soon after,” said Braekhus. “My goal for this fight is the same as my last. I’m going to be better than Svensson in every area – technique, tactics, strength and footwork. I will win and I will do it before the 10th round ends.”

Said Team Sauerland promoter Nisse Sauerland: “We’re happy to have finalised negotiations for this fight. This is going to be a great match-up for the fans. You have the current female pound-for-pound number one against the young hungry challenger, and the rivalry between Sweden and Norway will of course give it an extra spice. We believe Klara is ready for this fight, Cecilia has been a great champion, but now it is time for Klara to take her place at the top of the division!”
