JELENA MRDJENOVICH- A VERY FINE EXAMPLE FOR WOMEN’S BOXING

Jelena Mrdjenovich has captivated and enchanted the whole world for her sheer grit warrior spirit, winning, ways but also for her spirit, in fighting back from adversity to triumph.

Jelena has celebrated her well earned victories, but significantly learned from her defeats, with, intelligence, grace, determination, hard work preparation, humility and simplicity.

Born in the Northwest Territories of Canada on June 24, 1982. Sports-enthused Jelena played basketball, but after suffering an injury that took her off the court for a some time more than a while, she spent a season at home watching boxing Television as his Father was a big fan of this sport.

Completely recovered, Jelena changed basketball for gloves and almost immediately showed her natural qualities. As an amateur, she won the 2003 and 2004 National Championship of Canada.

On January 25, 2003 Jelena made her professional debut against Cathy Boyes defeating her by TKO in the second round.

On November 18, 2005 she won the WBC super featherweight title stopping Franchesca Alcanter in the sixth round. In 2006 Jelena disputed the WBC lightweight title against Ann Saccurato. But that night success was not on her side.

In 2007 she again won the WBC super featherweight title by unanimous decision against Fujin Raika, at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Canada.

On March 23, 2012, Jelena disputed the vacant title in the featherweight division of the World Boxing Council against Lindsay Garbatt, winning in the first round.

In her second defense against Melissa Hernandez in 2012 Jelena lost the title by unanimous decision. However, in the rematch the tables were turned, as she was able to defeat the Puerto Rican recovering his green belt and gold.

With seven successful defenses of the title, the queen of the division faced Soledad Mathysse, on August 1st of 2015 where and was defeated on points. Absolutely and resolutely determined to recover her title, on March 11, 2016, Jelena again faced Soledad, in a fight in Canada. Ten thrilling, action packed and memorable rounds brought the sash back to intrepid Jelena, after one of the most formidable fights in recent years.

Jelena has a record of 37 fights won, 19 KO´s, 10 losses and a draw.
