It was announced that WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO Welterweight Champion “First Lady” Cecilia Brækhus (34-0, 9 KOs) of Norway is to step inside the ring on the highly anticipated 2nd Edition of Gennady Golovkin vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on Saptember 15th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Brækhus had a little difficulty with her May opponent in her first bout in the US of 2018, having been put to the canvas by Kali Reis before getting up to survive for the Decision win. Even after stating, in post-fight interview in the ring, Brækhus would welcome a rematch, there will not be a rematch. Reis stated, “they don’t want any parts of a rematch at this time”.

In what looks to be Brækhus’ 4th bout within the last year, fans and enthusiasts’ hopes and requests may be looking close to be answered for the P4P #1’s matchup with fan-favorite and future Hall of Fame boxer “Amazing” Layla McCarter (42-13-5, 11 KOs) in her backyard.

McCarter’s Manager tweeted this afternoon:

The 39 year old McCarter claimed the WIBF and GBU Welterweight Championships earlier in 2018 and successfully defended them in Germany in June. Upon returning from Europe, it was right back to the gym in preparation for any possible opening for this matchup.

In 20 years, McCarter has claimed handfuls of championship belts and is currently ranked near the top in all of the major sanctioning bodies within the Welterweight Division.

Brækhus is the top female on the globe for years now and started accumulating her stronghold of championships back in 2009 with the WBC and WBA titles. After 34 wins in 11 years, McCarter seems to be the only one that the champ has been reluctant to face. Why? She has faced everyone else in the division and anyone else that believes they can jump divisions and steal her glory.

Let’s get that contract signed and #Box4Respect!

TV coverage is HBO PPV but it is not known if the bout will be part of the live televised coverage.
