Catherine Phiri Headed to Mexico to Defend her WBC Belt Against Mariana Juarez on April 1

Mexican legend Mariana “La Barby” Juárez, will have the opportunity to conquer the third world crown of her career, fighting in front of more than 50,000 fans, in the heart of Mexico City, against World Boxing Council bantamweight champion, African Catherine Phiri.

This unique event organized by Promociones del Pueblo with the support of Cavall Sport and Playboy Mexico, will be in The Zocalo- a MEGA boxing card, the like of which the Capitol has never seen before!

And during this extravaganza, special tributes will be done to celebrate the glories of Mexican and world boxing. Don King, Jose Mantequilla Naples, Pipino Cuevas, Humberto “La Chiquita” González and Carlos Zárate will be the stars to fine shine.

With facilities granted by Mexico City`s Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera, and the invaluable work by the President of the World Boxing Council, Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán, the idea is to present a magnificent event thrilling more than 50,000 fans. The card will count with the attendance of artistic, political and sporting media. It will be a totally free event that will be broadcast live to more than 10 countries, via Televisa Deportes.

In addition, tip top Mexican prospect, Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez, who will be returning to the ring for the first time this year. Nery “El Pantera” Saguilán will be contesting the national super lightweight championship, against Jesús “Cotto” Vidales, and Diego “El Demoledor” Cruz, will clash with Alejandro “El Pájaro” Dávila. Not forgetting the professional debut of the Rio 2016 Olympian, Juan Pablo “El Pivi” Romero.
