From MTK Global:

CAMERON JOINS TRAINERS ON ANTI-KNIFE CAMPAIGN

World-class lightweight Chantelle Cameron has joined trainers Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis as an ambassador for Maverick Stars’ anti-knife crime movement ‘Sting Like A Bee.’

As young people continue to lose their lives to the spate of stabbings up and down the country, Cameron is urging those at risk of being caught up in gang violence to turn to positive activities such as boxing.

Cameron said: “Jamie and Nigel set it up for me. Jamie introduced me to the founders of the Maverick Trust and I’ve become an ambassador alongside them.

“I was inspired to help because of all the stabbings going on in the area. It happens in my town in Northampton as well – kids are stabbing each other over pretty much nothing so it’s time to raise awareness.

“Something needs to be done and it’s a cause I’m passionate about. This is a real eye-opener and getting kids into boxing gyms and into other activities will help prevent them getting into this kind of trouble.

“Young people are dying over nothing and it’s just crazy. I don’t know how it’s become such a craze. Years ago, people fought with their fists which wasn’t great but it was less life-threatening.

“There is a lot of peer pressure involved in this kind of thing. People are led to believe it’s a cool thing to do but it really isn’t.

“Boxing can definitely help because it teaches discipline and social skills. If you’re in a boxing gym getting burned out every evening, you don’t have the energy to go out afterwards. You can also let anger and tension out in a boxing gym.”

Cameron is currently training for a WBC world title eliminator against Anisha Basheel, which takes place on the #MTKFightNight at Brentwood Centre on July 20 – live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and on iFL TV.
