CLARESSA SHIELDS SPEARHEADS YOUNG PEOPLE
The World Boxing Council Super Middleweight champion, American Claressa Shields offered a motivational talk with young people from her hometown, Flint, Michigan.
“Growing up in Flint is not easy, I grew up poor, my mother was addicted to alcohol, it was very difficult, I never had food, I was also sexually abused and the only way I got over that was refuge in God, but what you should understand is that everything takes a process.”
The double Olympic gold medalist was in town to chat with members of Young Life of Flint. A faith-based non-profit organization that works to help young people in the community to improve their lives.
“I want to tell the children it took me a long time to discover that boxing is my passion, it took me a couple of drops here and there, but I discovered the route to be successful and to be excellent at what I do. It can be difficult, but you have to work hard to reach the goal.” Shields commented.
