Confident Natasha Jonas Seeking World Title Shot in 2020

AMBITIOUS JONAS RIDING A WAVE

Olympic heroine Natasha Jonas is dreaming of a 2020 world title shot as women’s boxing continues its steep ascent.

The Liverpudlian (9-1, 7 KOs) has been in ruthless form of late with back-to-back stoppage victories on #MTKFightNight events in her home city and is looking to complete her journey to the top of the sport next year.

With women’s boxing on high, Jonas is excited by what the future holds.

Jonas said: “I’d love to say 2020 holds world titles for me but as with anything in boxing, you have to keep winning and performing well to get where you want to get.

“It’s a great time to be involved in women’s professional boxing. These days, women have opportunities to have the same progression men do after the amateurs.

“We keep knocking down the barriers and we’re breaking them down all the way from the amateurs and into the professionals now, so it’s great.

“I don’t see myself as a role model. It’s hard to appreciate what you’ve done until after you’ve retired. I have had time to reflect on the amateurs but I’m still an athlete competing trying to get to a target.

“For a lot of young people and girls especially, you’re important so you have to put forward the real you because people can sense someone who’s not being true.

“This is a big time for women’s sport and it’s good for girls to be able to look up at boxers and say they want to be like that. It’s a good feeling.”
