Reis pours it on, delivering the heavy right at the close of the 8th Round

In HBO’s first ever female bout, Kali Reis (13-7-1, 4 KOs) of Rhode Island put the pressure on late as Cecilia Brækhus (33-0, 9 KOs) of Norway put on a technical output over the opening 6 plus rounds to pace herself to a successful unified championship defense.

Brækhus out-landing and out-throwing Reis throughout the 10 Rounds despite Reis delivering a 7th Round knockdown at the hand of a heavy overhand right. Reis followed with an 8th Round rocking Brækhus with another overhand right at the ending bell.

Official Scores: Brækhus retains her WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF, and IBO belts with scores of 97-92, 96-93, 96-93

Reis proved that she can bang with the best, now delivering something no one else can — knockdowns to high ranked champions. First, Christina Hammer was put down in their first meeting. Now, Brækhus.

Brækhus already stated a Rematch is necessary and welcomed.
