From WBC:

Legendary Alicia Ashley retires

Former world champion Alicia Ashley has officially announced her retirement from professional boxing.

When aged 48, Alicia became the oldest boxer to win a world title, capturing the female WBC Super Bantamweight belt. This was on October 29, 2015 by defeating Christina McMahon.

Alicia Ashley was credited by the Guinness Record for being the longest reigning active champion and the oldest champion.

In an interview with the Half Star Sports, Alicia Ashley mentioned that her retirement had already taken place some months before, but that the time had come to make it official.

“I’ve actually been retired for months, but now I make it official. My last fight was on March 18 of last year in Denmark. And now I’m telling you, I’m officially retired from boxing. I love this sport and I will always be involved in it. I will continue as a coach, because my goal is to help a new world champion, regardless of gender.

“Although I have lived in New York for a long time, I recognize myself 100% from Jamaica. I always fought with the colors of my flag. I love my land and the only remorse I have is that I could never fight there.”

Alicia’s path in the sport is far from over, as she’s now focused on working as a boxer trainer in China, in a gym called Zou 1 Boxing and Fitness Club, in Shanghai, owned by the former Olympic and world champion Zou Shiming.
