From the Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, “The Heavy Hitting Diva” Franchon Crews-Dezum (4-1, 1 KO) clearly outclassed Maricelo “La Diva” Cornejo (12-3, 5 KOs) over 10 rounds of championship action LIVE on ESPN 2 this evening to claim the WBC Female Super Middleweight Championship of the World.

I was only two years ago that “The Heavy Hitting Diva” decided to leave her extensive amateur background for the paid ranks, only to debut with fellow US National Team Member, Claressa Shields, in a much unheard of debut bout. Unfortunately, Crews first fight was a defeat. But that did not stop her from proceeding to higher goal.

In two short years and in only her fifth professional matchup, Crews-Dezurn accepted the role of David versus Goliath in Cornejo on her promoter’s marquee show.

The aggressor, Crews-Dezurn, came with relentless force towards a constantly backwards moving Cornejo.

The underdog’s power punches to Cornejo’s head and hooks to the midsection kept the Cornejo hesitant and struggling to mount anything equalizing.

Despite the overly-aggressive show of Cornejo to the canvas in the second round that drew a warning by the referee, the Baltimore residing Crew-Dezurn flat of dominated the bout.

Official Scores: 99-91, 99-91, and a confusing 95-95

“The Heavy Hitting Diva” won the Battle of the Divas and now stands atop the Super Middleweights.

In what was originally promoted as an “interim” title bout, the Super Middleweight Championship was now officially considered vacated by Shields, since her intention is to face the Middleweight Champion, Christina Hammer, in due time.
