Katie Taylor becomes undisputed champion

In a clash for the undisputed female lightweight title, Katie Taylor (14-0, 6 KOs) took a majority decision over former WBC champion Delfine Persoon (43-2, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

At the end of 10 close rounds, which ended with both fighters smarting, with cuts, welts and bruises on their faces from non stop action, Taylor’s victory came when two Judges saw her go ahead by two points, with advantages of 96-94, while a third saw the actions 95-95, for the majority decision.

In this way, Taylor becomes the first Unified World Champion of the lightweight division, with the four most important titles in her power. She joins two female warriors who are already Unified Champions: Cecilia “The First Lady” Braekhus, at welterweight, and Claressa Shields at middleweight.

With this victory Taylor, raises her record to 14-0, with 6 knockouts, while Persoon got the second loss of her career which now stands at 43 wins and 18 knockouts.
