Quebec’s Marie-Eve DiCaire (15-0) had to reinforce strategy to move through Sweden’s Mikaela Lauren (31-6, 13 KOs) on Saturday in her defense of the IBF Super Welterweight Championship.

At the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on her promoter – GYM Promotions Show, the IBF Champ DiCaire was cut early (above her left eye, in the 2nd Round) and had to refocus on her speed and technique to out wit and outpoint the powerful former champion.

The southpaw DiCaire kept connecting with a 1-2 combination and maneuvered around the powerful counter of Lauren.

DiCaire cited, “We had to adjust a lot, because in the second round, I was hit by a whim and there was a cut.” She continued, “The cut was pretty serious and if the fight continued and there was a stop by the doctor… So we had to make a very strategic fight from the beginning to the end in which I had to win the rounds, because a punch could have been to open the wound and at that moment it would have been dramatic.”

Official Scores: 97-93, 98-92, 99-91
