On a rainy Saturday evening at Stubhub Center in Carson, CA, the best seat in the house must have been at home watching via ESPN 3.

LA’s Lightweight Mikaela Mayer (4-0, 3 KOs) rocked Greece’s Maria Semertzoglou (7-4, 2 KOs) with heavy right only 30 seconds into the opening round. Sensing a quick end in the miserable night weather, Mayer followed with relentless attack as Semertzoglou held onto the ropes defenseless before referee Sharon Sands stopped the bout.

Mayer dealt the first stoppage defeat to what was to a be a durable test in Semertzaglou.

Official Time of the Stoppage: 35 seconds in Round 1

Unfortunately, weather may have hampered attendance. Hopefully more Mayer fans had purchased tickets and chose to stay dry and watch from the comforts of home.

More unfortunately, the visible 40-50 people in attendance is not the fan quantity promoters need to justify investing into women’s boxing.

Views on ESPN App is not going to pay the requested increased purse values that the female athletes are requesting today.

Promoters need ticket purchasing fans to pay the bills and see the ROI (Return On the Investment).
