WHO: Undefeated WBC and IBF Super Middleweight Champion Claressa Shields (5-0, 2 KOs) of Flint, MI to face WBO Super Welterweight Champion Hanna Gabriels (18-1-1, 11 KOs) of Costa Rica.
WHAT: Shields faces Gabriels for the vacant WBA and IBF Middleweight crowns, and the next step towards Shields versus WBC and WBO Middleweight Champion Christina Hammer later in 2018.
WHERE: Masonic Temple, Michigan, MI, the site of Shields’ WBC Silver capturing victory.
WHEN: Friday, June 22nd and televised live on Shobox: The Next Generation
Earlier in April, rumors were originating in Costa Rica that Gabriels was to be making the trip north to make her US debut on June 22nd against Shields. Now, it is a reality!
Gabriels is a heavy puncher, but has not fought higher than 154 lb since her professional debut in 2007. She has spent her entire career in the Welterweight and Super Welterweight divisions, collecting the WBO Welterweight Championship before her current Super Welterweight Championship collection.
Shields has flat out dominated her first 5 pro bouts with wins over Franchon Crews-Dezurn, Szilvia Szabados, Sydney LeBlanc, Nikki Adler, and Tori Nelson in just about a year and a half.
Shields is obviously moving down in weight earlier than her matchup with Christina Hammer.
