from Barnett’s sister, Casey

Local favorite Super Flyweight Alisah McPhee (4-2-1) could not overcome the persistent newcomer Shelly Barnett (4-0-1) in Friday night’s “Turmoil on 200th” show in Langley, British Columbia, Canada for Super Flyweight National Championship of Canada.

Barnett outworked, outclassed, and overpowered McPhee to earn the championship title in the 8-Round Main Event.

While McPhee relied more on the constant jab, Barnett was unloading with wearing body shots and heavy rights upstairs throughout. Barnett pressed the action for 16 minutes of action, coming forward on attack, forcing McPhee to retreat and look for counters.

After 8 Rounds of high octane boxing, the official scores read: 80-72, 78-74, 77-75 for Barnett.

Timing was perfect for some motivation for the Ontario native, Barnett. She posted on social media, days before the bout: “Thinking about my Mom today on her Birthday where is celebrating in heaven with my Dad! Ironically she loved Vancouver so I will be so proud to put on the best show for her and my Dad in her favorite city for the Canadian Title 🇨🇦 much love have a great day my people I know I will, doing what I love.”

Having just fought just a few weeks ago – a hard-fought draw to Guadalupe Rodriquez (3-1-1) of Mexico, Barnett went right back to the gym and started preparing for anything that came her way. Receiving the call only weeks ago, she took this fight as a catalyst to show she is ready for anyone in the ranks.

We caught a few moments of Barnett’s time this morning. She stated, “I am feeling so grateful and proud. I couldn’t even sleep. lol”

“Machine Gun” Shelly continued, “I felt I put on my best performance to date. I felt a difference in my power in this fight. I knew it had to be very decisive.”

McPhee has mentioned a rematch in her post fight videos. Barnett responded, “I haven’t heard of any news for a rematch but they were super nice out here and I’m honored!”

What’s next for Barnett?

“I’m hoping to fight at Lee Baxter’s next big show at the Air Canada Center in Toronto July 28th”
