In a brutal 4-Round Super Welterweight battle at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL on Friday, Sarah Curran (3-1) gets past 2012 Nigerian Olympian Edith Ogoke (1-1) in a #WomenofBoxing Prospect Bout.

Both participants came into this one in the best shape of their career and with great motivation and ambitions.

Curran has never shied away from a challenge nor trying to take an easy route to build her record, facing all opponents with no losses.

Ogoke has been after decent opponents for her debut and has a well thought out plan to the top of the ranks, taking the seconds matchup attempt with Curran in her second pro bout speaks volume.

“The Lioness of the World” Ogoke came out aggressive, coming forward with her constant but wild attacks.

“Savage” Curran landed clean punches and slipped in some nice counters that may have been the edge that was needed.

This bout was a tail of distances.

When distance was kept, Curran had the edge with her popping overhand rights. Ogoke kept the aggression was was a bit wild and missed too frequently.

In the mid-range game, Ogoke progressed with glancing blows as Curran maneuvered around the ring defensively.

Once in tight, the match was intense and sloppy. Ogoke pressed Curran hard and found the midsection openings. In doing so, Curran cited numerous vicious headbutts as Ogoke was leading in with the head.

This 4-Rounder was a rough one to score. This is exactly why judges are positioned on different sides of the ring. Perspectives can be very different.

Official Scores: 39-37 Ogoke, 39-37 Curran, 40-36 Curran

Friday’s matchup was an emotional one for both boxers in the ring. Neither are particularly happy with their performance. Ogoke’s team was filing a protest on the scoring.
