In the first ABF Championship in Chicago and Illinois, “Savage” Sarah Curran (4-1-1) of McHenry, IL brought the Pre-Thanksgiving heat on Shianne Gist (4-1-2, 1 KO) of Liverpool, OH on Wednesday evening in Elk Grove Village.

On Hitz Boxing’s traditional holiday event, a capacity crowd witnessed the Match of the Night when Welterweight prospects Curran dealt Gist her first defeat in 7 professional bouts. Curran over-powered and out-pointed Gist on Bobby Hitz’s signature Black Wednesday showcase.

Curran was the aggressor with constant head movement and quick 1-2 attacks with heavy scoring and impacting rights. Her body work was much improved over her 6 professional bout, where she worked her way inside on Gist.

Gist stood tough and steady thoughout, absorbing Curran’s hard-hitting rights while continuing to battle over the six rounds of action.

Humble in defeat, Gist stated, “She (Curran) is tough, very strong. She was a little bit stronger than I am used to. I felt like I did what I could but the better fighter won. That’s all that matters. She is a Badass! She is one of the toughest girls I have fought so far.” She continued, “We went up in weight for this fight. I usually fight at 140 and we went up to 147 for this one. It is ok… It’s heart-breaking, when you work your ass off. No one wants to lose. It is what it is. I am usually strong in the body but she is the first one, even in my amateur career, to have hurt me in the body. I am not afraid to admit that. It is what I need to step up, a little heavier than my weight class but sometimes you have to venture outside of your comfort zone. That is what I did. I am not from around here. This is not my backyard. It makes me a better fighter and a better person. It was a humbling experience. Congrats to her! She deserves it. It just makes me what to work harder.”

Gist already has plans for being back inside the ring in early 2019. “January 5th at West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville, VA. I have fought there before and their like me there and they want me to be the Main Event for the ABF title at 140 (Super Lightweight). It is good.”

An ecstatic and elated Curran, “I just have to say… that was my 16th fight ever in my life! It is only going to get better! I threw more punches than I did when I was with Bertha (Aracil, in September).”

“I felt good in there, but I know I can still be better.” stated Curran.

“Savage concluded, “I want to again thank my mom & dad, my in-laws, the Mango Combat Sports team (Doug, Brian Cat, Deon, Mikey, Tim, and everyone at the gym) for all of your support!!! Thanks to my Corporate Disk fam for being there for me! Thank you to all my sponsors! Thank you BOBBY HITZ and AMERICAN BOXING FEDERATION for letting me be a part of another huge fight card and now win my first championship belt!”
