From WBC:

Just what the doctor ordered!

Temperatures are rising on fevered brows, as Mexican boxer Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado, faces the most important fight of her career.

Mercado (13-1-0, 4 Ko’s), aged 20, who works with coach Alfredo Caballero, will travel all the way to Nairobi, Kenya, to bandage her hands, put on the gloves and challenge World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion, Kenyan Fatuma Zaika (30- 12-2, 17 ko’s).

Mercado, who is about to finish her professional nursing studies, was absent from boxing for a while, but returned in November of 2017, achieving five consecutive victories.

“Since my debut as pro boxer, I was aiming to be the first woman champ from Chihuahua and to win a world title. I will have the World Boxing Council belt if I get to continue with my work ethic, perseverance, discipline, total dedication in the training and all my heart, I’m sure I’ll achieve it, “said Mercado, who recently defeated Beatriz Arangure on June 1 in Hermosillo, Sonora.
