Unified World Champions Claressa Shields and Hanna Gabriels held a media workout in downtown Detroit earlier today

Ahead of their clash Friday night for the vacant IBF and WBA Middleweight world championships, unified champions Claressa Shields and Hanna Gabriels held separate workouts for the media at a downtown Detroit boxing gym.

Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and unified Super Middleweight champion Shields – a Flint, Michigan native – worked with first-time trainer John David Jackson in the ring before speaking with the media.

The media also got to check out Costa Rica’s one-loss two-division world champion Gabriels, as she went through one of her final workouts before making her U.S. debut against the 23-year old hometown favorite.

This fight is promoted by Salita Promotions and airs live on Showtime Boxing: Special Edition this Friday night, June 22, starting at 10 p.m./7 p.m. ET/PT. The show kicks off with a 10-round opener between Russia’s Umar Salamov (20-1, 15 KOs) and Georgia’s Brian Howard (13-1, 10 KOs) for the IBF North American Light Heavyweight Championship. Preceding Shields vs. Gabriels will be unified Middleweight champion Christina Hammer (22-0, 10 KOs) of Germany defending her WBC and WBO Titles in her U.S. debut against former world champion Tori Nelson (17-1-3, 2 KOs).

The un-televised portion of the card features several exciting in action such as local prospects Ja’Rico O’Quinn, James Ballard, Leon Lawson III and Joseph Bonas. Fans will also catch rising Super Lightweight Bakhtiyar Eyubov, Heavyweight Apti Davtaev and Baltimore’s hard-hitting Super Middleweight Franchon Crews Dezurn.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Salita Promotions, are available at Ticketmaster.com or at the Masonic Temple Box Office at (313) 832-7100. VIP tickets are priced at $300, ringside tickets at $125, and remaining tickets at $75, $50 and $35.
