Matchroom Boxing has invaded the US for their Matchroom Boxing USA project. Their October 6th installment is in Chicago at the Wintrust Arena.

Scheduled to be featured are WBC Super Lightweight Champion Erica Farias (26-2, 10 KOs), of Argentina, defending her belt against Jessica McCaskill (5-3, 2 KOs) of Chicago. Also on the card is Polish legend Tomas Adamek (53-5, 31 KOs).

Adamek’s support crew is grand and included WBO Super Featherweight Champion Ewa Brodnicka (15-0, 2 KOs) of Warsaw, Poland.

Brodnicka was elevated to WBO Champion after Ramona Kuehne vacated her title instead of facing the Polish interim Champion.

She made her first successful defense of her belt with an April Unanimous Decision victory over Canadian challenger, Sarah Pucek.

We caught up with the Brodnicka on Wednesday to discuss her travels and her upcoming title defense.

How do you like Chicago?
I like it very much! I am staying downtown and it is great! It is fantastic! I like the city. I come from the capital, from Warsaw. I love it here. Starbucks! Everything is around… Shopping!

I am going to take some of the habits back to Poland, especially the smiling. Everyone is always smiling and asking, “How are you?” I love it!

As you have been site-seeing – out in public, has anyone recognized you?
Some Polish people have! Many people talk about my tattoo (boxing gloves on the back of her arm) that they like.

Have you thought about fighting here, in Chicago?
If one day, it would be possible like this with my promoter, Mariusz Grabowski (Tymex Boxing Promotion) I would like to do it. I would love to fight here.

So many boxers are now wanting to compete here in the US – like Cecilia Brækhus, Christina Hammer, Katie Taylor… What are you thought of fighting or training in New York, Miami, California, Las Vegas… ?
It is very popular to fight here! It is important for me to progress and train. It is good here in the US to find sparring partners on a high level. But I love my country. I miss my home. I can come here for training but I like to go home.

I have been staying here (in the US) for one month. Now, it is the last week. We were in Vero Beach, Florida and it is SO FUCKING HOT! And here… we went to the gym this morning and we were so powerful because it was cold from the air conditioner. Now, I think it has given me a good results for conditioning.

I saw that you now have your WBO title defense set. Care to discuss that matchup?
Yes. October 26th. I will be fighting Nozipho Bell (8-1-1, 3 KOs) from South Africa. She is fitting of the challenge. We will defend the title. And next year, we hope to get another belt.

Is there a chance of facing Ramona Kuehne?
No! She has refused it! She does not want to fight me! They lost the bet (purse bid) and she does not want to fight me. If she does not want, I cannot push her for it.

Have you been paying attention to some of the young talent coming into your division, like Mikaela Mayer?
Yeah! She jumped down so it is more interesting in my division.

There are still some from Finland, like Eva Wahlstrom who is WBC so it is interesting. I think run away from some classes due to Katie Taylor but we will see what is going on. It is the work of the promoters to match good events.

I am glad you are enjoying your time in Chicago. Good luck Champ!
It was very nice to meet you and thank you for what you do for us!
