Yamileth aims to market people power defense

World Boxing Council female super-bantamweight champion, Yamileth Mercado, tells newspaper Esto de México, that her next fight could take place in March, against the mandatory challenger Catherine Phiri.

Yamileth (15-2, 4 KOs), who was crowned last November, dethroning Fatuma Zarika, by unanimous decision in a rematch, said that at this moment both teams are in negotiations, hoping that their company reaches a satisfactory agreement with the representatives of Phiri.

“My team tells me that the defense is in negotiations, but there is confidence of bringing this fight to Chihuahua on March 28. Hopefully, it will be settled in the next few days so I can defend the title in front of my people,” said Mercado.
