WBO Super Featherweight Champion Ewa Brodnicka Defends her Title Against Former Champion Edith Soledad Matthysse on Friday

The pride of Poland, Ewa Brodnicka (17-0, 2 KOs) defends her WBO Super Featherweight Championship on Friday at the Hala Sportowa in Czestochowa, Poland on her promoter Tymex Boxing Promotions Showcase.

The champion will be making her fourth championship defense but against another tough and driven former champion in Argentine Edith Soledad Matthysse (16-10-1, 1 KO).

“Cleo” Brodnicka won the Interim title in mid-2017 after defeating Irma Adler easily by shutout Unanimous Decision, making her the mandatory opponent to then champion Ramona Kühne. Kühne vacated her title and moved up to Lightweight, allowing the WBO to remove Brodnicka’s “Interim” status and elevate her to full champion.

The Polish Champion successfully defended her title twice in 2018 over Sarah Pucek and Nozipho Bell.

In May of this year, Brodnicka inched past former champion Janeth Perez of Mexico by Split Decision to retain her belt.

On Friday, former WBC and WBA Featherweight Champion Matthysse brings her championship family pedigree to Europe for the first time in her career.

Matthysse is the sister of former WBA Welterweight Champion and powerhouse Lucas Matthysse.

The Argentinian has exchanged punches with some of the best in the sport over her 12 years as a professional, that includes the unification win over Jelena Mrdjenovich in 2015. She has also scored the first career defeat to current WBO Bantamweight Champion Daniela Bermudez.

With Matthysse’s additional in ring experience with Marcela Acuña, Jackie Nava, Yazmin Rivas, and more, it adds true grit to this matchup. This is no walk in the park type of defense for Brodnicka.
