New York’s Alicia “The Empress” Napoleon (9-1, 5 KOs) cruises through Belgium’s Fenke Hermans (6-1, 3 KOs en route to the vacant WBA Super Middleweight crown on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

As part of Showtime Boxing’s Wilder vs. Ortiz undercard, Napoleon dictated a near perfect 10 Round dominance over her European counterpart, controlling the action and the ring, pressuring and wearing down Hermans late in the match. The body work Napoleon inflicted paid dividends.

After 10 Rounds, the judges unanimously honored Napoleon with the championship decision.

“It’s hard to find words to describe this right now,” said Napoleon. “It’s so surreal it’s almost like a dream. I’m just glad I did it. This is one down, but there’s many more to go. The goal is to get all the belts.”

“I think this means a lot for women’s boxing, not just that I won the belt, but where I was placed on this great card,” said Napoleon. “People are going to continue to see and hear more and more from women boxers.”

Napoleon is now signed with DiBella Entertainment and reeling for something huge, putting her only blemish (a defeat to WBC and IBF Champion Claressa Shields’s latest victim, Tori Nelson) way into the past.

As Napoleon stated, during fight week, “I’m definitely ready to fight Claressa Shields. That’s something I want. She’s not the only fighter with skills, there are a lot of us out there and it takes all of us to create an empire for women’s boxing.” Hopefully, we see this soon!

At Shields’ January matchup with Nelson, we caught up with Napoleon following the show. The now WBA Champ was eager for that matchup then. This will make another fine edition of Best Facing the Best!
