UK’s Lightweight Sam Smith (7-1, 4 KOs) just wrapped up camp for her 6-Round hometown matchup with Poland’s Sylwia Maksym (2-2) scheduled for Friday at the Leeds United Football Club Banqueting Suite.

Smith hopes to keep the active pace as she enters the ring for the second time in the last four months. In November, Smith scored a decision victory over Poland’s Monika Antonik.

Since turning professional in early 2015, Smith’s only blemish is a close decision and considered controversial defeat to Christina Linardatou in November of that year in a battle for the Universal Boxing Federation International Lightweight Championship.

The 38 year old Smith explained camp for this upcoming bout to #WomenofBoxing: “It’s been a hard camp with lots of work put in as I’m still a working progress.”

Asked further about camp, Smith cited, “We’re expecting a fast start from my opponent as she comes forward. So with my come forward style we will probably meet in the middle for a busy fight.”

Smith continue, “We’re looking to put the stuff we’ve been working on into use so getting the rounds in”

“Stacey (Copeland) was my main sparring partner as she is boxing the same day so good for us both. Also had a sparring day at my gym (Alliance Boxing club Leeds England) that I co-own with Graham Mattison. We had about 10 female’s there. I did 9 round with sparring partners changing every 2 rounds or so.:

Who is Team Sam?

“Team Sam starts with my partner & our twins, my lead trainer Martin Williams, co-trainer Carl Johanneson –
former British champion and a formidable fighter, also Derek Roche advising and corner – another former British champion. my Sponsor’s Alliance Work Force Ltd & Approved Work Force Ltd & Ultimately Team Sam is ever single person that buys ticket and gets behind me because with out these guys the is no team.”

Good luck Champ!
