Cecilia Braekhus opens school in Uganda!

After finishing out her boxing year in ‘Grand Style’ on December 8, 2018, ‘The First Lady’ Cecilia Braekhus travelled to Uganda to open the ‘First Lady Primary School, a high school located just outside the capital city of Uganda.

Braekhus has been working on the project for three years with ‘Bring Children From the Streets’, a Norwegian/Ugandan group headed by Richard Kiwanuka. The Opening Ceremonies took place this past Sunday, December 16.

“It’s a high school for both girls and boys. It is located a little outside the capital, in a safe and idyllic setting. It is intended for children from the slums in Kampala, who get an opportunity for an education, as well as some children from other areas.”

“When I leave Uganda, the school will still be there. And the past experience is that those who educate and move on and graduate, come back and help those who are in need. So it will be a positive circle. It’s a wonderful process to participate.”

“The new buildings are stunningly beautiful. It’s been all we dreamed that it would be.”

Braekhus improved to 35-0 defending all of her undisputed titles on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with a dominant ten-round decision over world ranked contender Aleksandra Madgziak-Lopes at the Stubhub Center in Carson, CA. The victory headlined the final HBO Boxing telecast marking Braekhus’ second appearance on the premium cable channel in 2018 and capping off a remarkable year filled with tremendous performances inside the ring and a wealth of accolades outside.
