From WBC:

Shields Vs Hammer…Worth the wait and worth their weight in Gold…and green

Claressa Shields (8-0, 2 KO) and Christina Hammer (24-0, 11 KO) will fight on April 13 in Atlantic City.

The two will star in the most anticipated fight in women’s boxing today.

The middleweight match will be broadcast by Showtime. They are two of the best pound for pound fighters of today and with this clash they will unify the division.

They have run out of rivals, now there can only be one. Everyone expects it and they must prove that women’s boxing can offer matches of the same quality as men’s boxing.

Both had planned to fight in November 2018, but a Hammer injury stopped the plans. Now the German is 100% recovered. Hammer is one of the greatest competitors in the Sport`s history.

She has been a champion for eight years and at 28 she is at the best moment of her career. “I’ve waited a long time for this moment, I’m bigger, stronger and more experienced, I cannot wait to show the world that I’m the best undisputed champion in the world,” Hammer said.

For her part, Shields is the favorite of the American public. She participated in the first Olympic Games in London 2012 Womens Boxing Competition , and won the gold medal. She repeated the feat in Rio 2016, after which she decided to turn pro.

In four fights, she was already world champion. Now, with only 23 years, she has three of the four belts of 160 pounds and is very motivated to have closed this fight:

“I always look for the biggest challenges and set higher goals, nothing will stop me from winning and continue to take women’s boxing to levels never before seen.”
