WBO Orders Dina Thorslund to Defend her Super Bantamweight Belt Against April Adams

THORSLUND ORDERED TO DEFEND WBO WORLD TITLE AGAINST ADAMS

Dina Thorslund (13-0, 6 KOs) has been ordered to face mandatory challenger April Adams (11-1-1, 4 KOs) in the next defence of her WBO World title.

The Danish super bantamweight star claimed the WBO World title in front of her home fans at the Struer Energi Park on August 25 with a unanimous points win over Mexico’s Jessica Arreguin Munoz, before successfully retaining the title with a convincing points win against Alesia Graf at the same arena on January 19.

The WBO have now announced that the Thorslund must defend her title against their number one ranked contender Adams, from Queensland, Australia, in her next fight, with a purse bid set for Friday, February 22 in Kissimmee, Florida.

Thorslund says she is ready to defend her WBO Female Super Bantamweight title against the former WBO Asia Pacific and Australian Champion Adams.

“Adams is a really good challenger,” said Thorslund. “She’s definitely a tough opponent, who doesn’t give up. I will not underestimate her, but I think I’m on a different level, and that’s what you’re going to see when we’re in the ring.”

Promoter Nisse Sauerland, for Team Sauerland, will go up against other promoters including Adam’s Ace Boxing Promotions, in a blind bid to win the rights to stage the WBO Female Super Bantamweight Championship contest.

“We will do everything in our power to bring this fight to Denmark,” said Sauerland. “The WBO have selected Adams as the number one contender for Dina’s belt, and it’s important we give Dina every advantage possible going into this fight. We will have a representative in Florida for the purse bid on Friday.”

Following the purse bid, in accordance with the WBO rules, the winning party will have a maximum of 90 days in which to stage the fight.
