“Machine Gun” Shelly Barnett (4-0-1) is headed back to familiar land, in her native city of Toronto, where she will be part of the support of the Jose Sulaiman WBC World International Tournament Semi-Final Round show at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, August 25th. The show is presented by Real Deal Boxing and Lee Baxter Promotions.

The newly crowned Bantamweight National Champion of Canada, Barnett, returns home for her 4th bout north of the border of her current residency in Evanston, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago. This bout will be a rematch with Mexico’s Guadalupe “La Brujita (The Little Witch)” Rodriquez (3-1-1), Barnett’s biggest threat so far in her young career.

Lee Baxter Promotions has featured Barnett on two of their shows in the last year, as well as help facilitate the May matchup where she won the Canadian title by way of Unanimous Decision over Alisah McPhee in Vancouver.

On her second Lee Baxter show, in April of this year, Barnett squared off with the virtually unknown Rodriguez, only knowing height and orthodox stance.

The match was a hard-hitting, action-packed 6-rounder that left the three judges seeing different perspectives, scoring it a Split Draw.

In one week’s time, “Machine Gun” Shelly is determined to set the story straight and prove her Prospect Status. She told us, “I am stronger now and have improved a lot since then, even though it was only in April.”

When asked we asked how this rematch will be different, Barnett responded, “I’m gonna do the same thing that I did the first time, just meaner, smarter, stronger, and faster!

Being on a large scale show in a venue that has a capacity of 20,000, Barnett cited, “This will be the biggest venue I’ve ever fought at and I am grateful to be a part of this event! I’m going to take full advantage of the big stage and make my people proud!”

This match will be one to watch.
