Brazil’s Rose Volante improves to 13-0 with 7 KOs and retains her WBO Lightweight championship belt on Saturday after disposing of Panama’s unqualified challenger Lourdes Borbua (8-1, 4 KOs).

Borbua, the WBC Latino Champion, lost her shot at the WBO World title by weighin in 7 lbs heavy.

Volante, wanting to entertain her home country fans, controlled the match. Snapped jabs and overpowering hooks on the challenger, battering Borbua around the ring.

Combinations to the midsection on Borbua as she was sent to the canvas just before the bell in the 4th Round.

Volante came in pouncing again in the 5th Round, dropping Borbua for a second time in the match. With an apparent leg injury, the challenger rose and continued through the round.

To start the 6th Round. Borbua conceded the bout.

Official Time of the Stoppage: 0:00 of the 6th Round.

In a weight division where Katie Taylor is looking to unify the entire Lightweight division, Volante may have something to say and do about that debate.
